ODAC Engages High Schoolers in Inspiring Lecture on Organ Donation at Bard College

New York, NY – The Organ Donation Awareness Corporation (ODAC) recently inspired high school students at Bard College's early college program on March 8, 2023, with an informative and engaging lecture on the importance of organ donation. The event, part of a series aimed at raising awareness and understanding of the organ donation process, also provided guidance on how students can register as organ donors.

Diya Cherian and Lasya Damaraju, both dedicated members and passionate advocates of ODAC, led the presentation. They began by sharing their personal experiences with organ donation, which helped to establish a genuine connection with the audience.

The lecture delved into the intricacies of organ donation, identifying it as a selfless gift that significantly improves the lives of others. Cherian and Damaraju highlighted two main forms of donation: deceased and living donation. They emphasized the profound impact of registering as an organ donor, with one donor having the potential to save up to 8 lives and enhance an additional 75 lives.

Cherian and Damaraju explained that anyone can become an organ donor, regardless of age or medical history, and highlighted the simplicity of the registration process, which takes only a few minutes either online or while obtaining a driver's license.

The speakers also addressed common misconceptions about organ donation, reassuring students that doctors prioritize saving patients' lives and that religious or personal beliefs should not hinder one's decision to register as an organ donor. They further discussed the impact of COVID-19 on organ donation.

The lecture concluded with an interactive quiz and a Q&A session, encouraging students to engage with the speakers and ask questions. Students expressed a keen interest in learning more about the organ donation process and exploring ways to raise awareness about this crucial issue.

As ODAC continues its mission to educate and raise public awareness about organ donation, the organization remains committed to hosting events that spark interest and inspire future generations to make a difference in the lives of others.
