New Year, New You – Become an Organ Donor Today!
It’s 2022! As the year rolls in, many people decide to pick up new habits to try and become their “best selves.” For example, some start a new workout regime as a part of their New Year resolution. What if I told you there was another great bodily resolution that could affect you and countless others? Did you know there are almost 9,500 New Yorkers that need a transplant and are on the national organ transplant list? Every nine minutes, another person is added to the list. 73% of New Yorkers are not registered organ donors. I want to encourage you to become an organ donor as a part of your new year resolution. It's super easy and quick and something that would only need to be done once— unlike the gym.
You might be asking yourself how do I sign up to be an organ donor?
The first step to becoming an organ donor is to sign up at the New York Donor registry. It only takes a few minutes to register online. If that doesn’t work out for you, you could always print out a registration form and mail it. Another way to register is on your driver’s license application! On your next trip to your local DMV, you can choose the option to become a donor today, and they’ll send your information to the state registry. Once you become an organ donor, it would be helpful to tell others such as family and friends! This may give them a reason to register as well, and more lives can be saved.
